    Why learn the piano?

I firmly believe that piano lessons form a valuable part of any child’s education and hope that they awaken a lifelong interest and involvement in music. It is well documented that learning a musical instrument develops the parts of the brain that control motor skills, hearing, storing audio information and memory.

A recent study by the University of Zurich states:

For children especially we found that learning to play the piano, for instance, teaches them to be more self disciplined, more attentive and better at planning. All these things are very important for academic performance so can therefore make a child brighter.

The study also found that music can also make it easier to learn foreign languages and become more perceptive in interpreting the emotions of others.

(The research is published in full in the online publication Faculty of 1000 Biology Reports).

Adults also benefit from learning an instrument and it is never too late to start!

The best reason to learn, of course, is that music written for the piano is wonderful and varied and an absolute joy to study.

Piano Teaching

I teach both at my home in Everberg and at the British School of Brussels in Tervuren.

I have taught piano since 1980 to pupils of all ages from 7 to 70. I prepare students for ABRSM exams from Grade 1 through to Diploma Level.

I have successfully taught students for LRSM and LTCL Diplomas in both piano teaching and performing.

Students taking piano lessons are not obliged to take exams but they do give structure and motivation.

My students mostly enjoy the process!

ABRSM exams from Grade 6 upwards are viewed as relevant qualifications for entry to British Universities.

I organise an annual student concert in which every student is invited to perform.

I offer lesson in both English and French. I believe that piano lessons should be hard work and fun!

Please contact me if you would like to arrange piano lessons.
